William (Cloneygown) Meredith

M, #15262, b. about 1762, d. February 1844

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: About 1762; Ireland
  • Death: February 1844; Cloneygown, Clonenagh parish, Queen's county
  • Burial: 13 February 1844; Maryborough, Queen's county
  • Note: A record I extracted from the Maryborough parish register: burial of William Meredith of Cloneygown, Clonenagh parish, age 82. However, we have since found a new item reporting the death of Thomas Meredith of The Oak at this time. It seems very likely that it was really Thomas of The Oak who was buried 13 Feb. 1844, not a William. I am assured that a record referring to Merediths of Cloneygown would be the family from The Oak.

W[illiam?] M. Meredith

U, #15263, b. before 1805, d. March 1822

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: Before 1805; Ireland
  • Death: March 1822; Queen's county, Ireland
  • Burial: 13 March 1822; Maryborough, Queen's county
  • Note: Maryborough burial record gives only initials "W.M."; probably was named William, as no other given name starting with "W" was known in the family. But, perhaps a Wilhelmina? No age given, but normally when a child was buried that was indicated, so I am guessing this individual was a male, named William, and would have been at least 20 years of age at the time.

John Wesley Clarke

The Griffiths shows John W. Clarke, Esq. as holding land in both Cappakeel and Emo Park, leased from the Earl of Portarlington. He is also the landowner of Little Pallas, west of Maryborough, where he is listed as the occupant of block 9, In Fee. He is the landlord of the other nine blocks in the townland. In 1870 Landowners list: John W. Clarke, address Emo, Portarlington, owned 339 acres.
In 1857 the Freemans Journal published a list of Electors in Queen's County which included John W. Clarke, as well as two William Clarkes, one of Rathleague and the other of Maryborough.
Death for John "Westly", age 62, registered 1st quarter 1879, Mountmellick District. Probate granted for John Wesley Clarke 20 Feb. 1879.
Could there be 2 John W. Clarkes? one in Maryborough, the other in Emo--seems unlikely, but???

Dr. Joseph Robert Clarke

M, #15270, d. before 1901

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: Killimy, Coolbanagher parish, Queen's county, Ireland
  • Christening: 6 September 1818; Coolbanagher parish, Queen's county, Ireland
  • Death: Before 1901
  • Note: Baptism record, Coolbanagher parish. An online record indicates that Joseph Robert Clarke was an M.D. of "Derrycappagh, Queen's [County]", "post 1876" and father of Esmonde, Allen and George Clarke .
At the time he married, Joseph was an M.D. and a resident of Mountmellick, Coolbanagher parish. His father's occupation was said to be Gentleman.
News item in Irish Times in 1876 places him as a member of the church vestry and living in Mountmellick. Marriage notice of his two eldest sons in 1881 indicates he was then living in Bath. I couldn't find him in England in 1881, but he and Caroline and some of their children are in the 1891 census, at 18 Kensington (same address as cited in marriage notice for his sons). Caroline was a widow in the 1901 census.
The 1859 UK Medical Register indicates that he was a resident of Mountmellick and that his qualifications were: "Lic. 1839, Lic. Midwif. 1839, R. Coll. Surg. Irel. -- M.D. Univ. Glasg. 1841."
  • Note: Caroline Sophia Dunne; Marriage registered Mountmellick District, witnesses Richard Dunne and Charlotte Clarke.
