notes: "Heavily in debt, Richard retired into private life. In the summer of 1660 he left his wife and family in England and went into exile on the Continent. Regarded as a dangerous person by the Restoration government, he remained abroad until 1680. On his return to England, he lived quietly at Cheshunt in Hertfordshire, under the assumed name of John Clarke until his death in July 1712."

claims that Richard was an ancestor of the Clarke family in Maryborough, Queen's County, Ireland, although neither of the above biographical records indicate there were any sons who might have led to this line.

Note: There are several records for Rebecca Clark, wife of John William Weatherholt and daughter of Thomas W. Clarke, born 1759. There are contradictory dates and places for them however. Rebecca is said to have been born in 1803 in some databases and about 1787 in others. They all seem to say she was born in Montgomery county, Virginia. Some have her father, Thomas W. Clarke, born 10 AUG 1759 in Stony Creek, Montgomery Co., VA ; others claim he was the Thomas Clarke who is said to have been from Rosenallis parish, Queen's county, Ireland, son of John Clarke and Alice Rosanna Drought, born about 1759 --the original source of these records appears to be ancestral file on the familysearch.org website.
Was the wife of John Weatherholt/Wetherholt really the daughter of Thomas Clarke from Rosenallis? I think these were 2 different Thomas Clark/es. The first site listed above says he was born need to do a lot more digging!
1850 census for Rebeca: age 62, born Virginia. In 1870 John's wife was named Dianna, so assume Rebecca had died before that census?
