Dr. Henry Minchin Clarke

M, #17260, b. 18 October 1841, d. 1919

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 18 October 1841; Queen's county, Ireland
  • Christening: 1 January 1842; Portarlington, Ireland
  • Death: 1919; Mountmellick District, Ireland
  • Note: 1911 Census: age 59, occupation: Licentiate Surgery and Medicine, no children from current marriage.
From KK: Henry Minchin Clarke in 1911 census living at 17 Brighton Road, Dublin. The census gives his place of birth as Queens County.. He was a doctor, registered in 1864. In 1867 he was living at The Rectory, Geashill, Kings County, After that for a number of years was at Philipstown before moving to Dublin where he had several different addresses. His last address was Rookwood, Portarlington. (Information from ancestry.com.) The Medical register also has a second Henry Minchin Clarke, registered 1902, first practising in Dublin, then Leeds and finally Esher in Surrey. He is no longer mentioned in the 1915 medical register. Son of this Henry Minchin Clarke?
There was also a marriage registration 1873, Dublin south, presumably a first marriage. Death registration 4th qtr, 1919, Mountmellick District.
In 1901 Henry was a visitor in the household of Dr. Alex Bleakley in Blessinton, County Wicklow. He is said to be married, but his wife is not listed with the Bleakley family. That census says he was born in Kings county?
In 1911 Henry was said to be age 59, had been married for 3 years, and was a Licentiate [of] Surgery and Medicine. He lived at 17 Brighton Road, Rathmines or West Rathgar, Dublin. Others in the household were his wife Harriette, mother-in-law and two young women who were servants, both named Clarke, RC, and born in county Wicklow. In contrast, his death record indicates he was 78 when he died in 1919--possibly transcribing error? or census error due to gap in age between him and his wife?
In addition to the marriage registered in 1909, there was a marriage registered for a Henry Minchin Clarke in Dublin South in 1873--probably a first wife? Henry's death was registered 4th qtr, 1919, Mountmellick District.
  • Note: Unknown; Marriage registration 1873, Dublin South.
