Rev. Richard Clarke

  • Note: : In 1831/32 Rev. Richard Clarke was burgomaster of the town of Portarlington, and hence listed as a magistrate "under corporate authority." Both he and Jonathan D. Clarke were also listed as Commissioners of the Peace for Queen's county, appointed by the Lord Chancellor.
    Entered TCD 6 Oct 1794, age 17; son of William, defunctus [I'm assuming this means deceased]; born Queen's County; completed BA est 1800 (Source: Alumni Dublinensis). When his son Francis married in 1839 Richard was deceased.
    Probably also the Rev Richard Clarke, buried St Michael's Portarlington, 7 Nov 1838 aged 63; 37 years chaplain of St Michael's Portarlington, 20 years Sovereign, Portarlington. Burial record is for 7 November; bio. notes in Clergy of Meath and Kildare give death date of 3 November, 1838.

    When reviewing the various records, it may be that we can infer the earliest generations as follows:
    1: Born early 1700s are various records for David, Jonathan, David Jonathan and Jonathan David, including a Jonathan David born about 1714 whose father was said to be David. These records are thought likely to be from the same family, but it is impossible to be certain how many of them are for the same individual; hence they are listed separately here--more info needed!
