Walter Jackson

  • Note: From Roscrea, County Tipperary, Ireland. 1901 and 1911 censuses show two John Jacksons in Roscrea, either of whom could have been Walter's father. In 1901 there is a Walter Jackson, age 18, bobbin turner, boarder in the home of John Henry and Sabina Jackson in Terryglass, County Tipperary--possibly this man? however, this Walter was born in England, as were John and Sabina?

William Carter

  • Note: Resident of Clonboyne, Queen's county, Ireland when son John was christened in Roskelton parish in 1826 (the same day as Henry and Elizabeth Carter also had a child christened).
    The Carters were among the first of the Meredith-related families to come to Canada. Volume II of the book "A History of Simcoe County" identifies William and Edward Carter as being amongst those settlers arriving before 1837. Both men lived on Lot 23, Concession 8 of Tecumseth tp (Hunter, Vol. II, p. 304: available online at ; also at). Unfortunately, the 1851 census for Simcoe county has not survived. In 1861 William and his family were living in West Gwillimbury tp, p. 23, lines 36-41. William was said to aged 79 years and 8 months when he died. Tombstone photo at:

  • Burial: Greenfield Cem., Peel tp, Wellington County
  • Note: From 1843 to 1851 children's baptism records show that Jonathan was a farmer in Morett, Coolbanagher parish, Queen's county, Ireland.
    In 1861 the Lewis family was visiting the Merediths in Essa tp, Simcoe county. They are listed with the sister and brothers of their son-in-law, John Edward Meredith.
    Death registration #19211: born Queen's county, Ireland, age 79; cause of death old age, two months
  • Note: Anne Pattison; Jonathan and Anne were witnesses to a marriage in Coolbanagher in 1840 (month unknown), and apparently were not married at that time as Anne was listed under her maiden name.
