  • Note: Said to be a resident of Iry, Clonenagh Parish, Queens County, when presumed daughter Catherine Anne married in 1846. However, the Griffiths Valuation for Iry (1850) shows Thomas Meredith holding slightly more than 89 acres of land without any buildings on it? Death record for Thomas of Iry died 1880 age 80; cause of death bronchitis, farmer, married.
    Valuation records show that land held by Thomas was later passed on to Edward.

  • Note: Marriage record for "Fanny," daughter of Rice Meredith, farmer of Derry Keran, assumed to be from this family. 1901 census shows Fanny age 47, a widow in Colt, farmer, Methodist, one son; in 1911 she is still farming, age 58, a farm labourer also in the household; indicates she had married 28 years earlier and had one child, still living.
  • Note: William Wilkinson; Roskelton 1845 Parish Register, record extracted by E. Jeffers had year 1865, according to my early records; however, from my notes the year was 1883; witnesses were Samuel Wilkinson and Rice Meredith.

  • Note: John was said to be aged 28 when he married in 1860, but 48 when he died in 1874? He was a resident of Essa tp when he married. In 1861 he and Mary Ann were evidently visiting his brothers in Essa tp when the census was enumerated, as they were listed with that household. Their residence was then said to be Mulmur tp. Also in the household were several members of Mary Ann's family, including her parents, the Lewises. Their home was said to be Peel tp. In 1871 John and Mary Ann were enumerated in Peel tp, Wellington county (div. 4, p.4) and John's age was said to be 40.
    Could he be the John Meredith, born Queen's county, age 19, who enlisted in the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1846 (FHL film #856059)?
  • Note: Mary Ann Lewis; Witnesses were John Meredith of Essa and George H. Lewis of Peel. Report in Elora Observer 2 March 1860: "At Alma, on the 16th ult., by the Rev. M. Colborne Powell Meredith

  • Note: Colborne was an architect by profession. See: http://www.magma.ca/~djeanes/architects/Meredith.html . He was said to have had one son--apparently the second boy who died before his second birthday, was not considered.
    Canada Archives website shows he had the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and was the recipient of the Order of Sainte Anne 2nd Class.
    Biography / Administrative History
    Lieutenant-Colonel C.P. Meredith, the son of Edmund Allen Meredith, was born at St. Andrews, N.B. He trained as an architect and became president of the Ontario Association of Architects in 1912. In 1908 he became a commissioner of the Ottawa Improvement Commission, and served as general secretary of the League of Nations Society of Canada from 1925 to 1934. Meredith joined the Militia in 1892, and from 1915 to 1918 was camp engineer and later camp commandant of Camp Petawawa.
    C.P. Meredith and his wife, Alden G. Griffin,, had an active interest in the history of early Ontario settlers, and wrote a number of articles on this subject. Mrs. Meredith was the author of Mary's Rosedale and Gossip of Little York, 1928.
