  • Note: Rebecca was from Shanbeg when she married. She was listed as being "underage" at the time (i.e., under 21 years old). On the 1901 census her age was said to be 59; in 1911 she was 68. At that time one of her 14 children was no longer living. Her death registration indicates she was a widow aged 82 and died at "Monaseribban", probably should be Monasterevin. Cause of death was "old age." The informant was her grandson Ned Wilkinson. The burial record shows her residence to have been Ballycullane.
  • Note: Thomas Meredith; Married by license. PMK recorded date of 7 July whereas I recorded the date as 14 July?? Thomas Meredith, full age, farmer of Ballyduff, Stradbally parish, son of Samuel Meredith, farmer married Rebecca Strong, under age spinster of Shanbeg, Rosenallis parish, daughter of William Strong, farmer. Witnesses: James Wilkinson and William Strong.

  • Note: George and Maria moved from Tullow, Co.Carlow to Kinsale Co.Cork from where they retired in 1939. They then lived in Rathleague House, Maryborough, now Portlaoise, Co. Laois. Maria died 20/6/1944.GC bought a small grocery shop in Bridgefoot St. Dublin in 1945,worked it for a few years and moved to live with his sister Kate (Eliz Cath) in Coolagh Cottage, Portarlington Co. Laois. When she died he stayed until 1954 when he came to live with my parents at Newtown Naas Co. Kildare where he died 3/11/1954.
    Tombstone: In loving memory of, Maria, dearly loved wife of, George Charles Keegan, Rathleague, died, 20th June 1944, aged 78 years, also her husband, George Charles Keegan, died, 3rd November 1954 aged, 82 years.

    Tombstone inscription reads: "In Loving Memory | of | WILLIAM H. MEREDITH | Ballymoate | died 20th March 1940, aged 62 yrs | also his wife AGNES | died 12th July 1962 aged 81 yrs | and their grandson WILLIAM | died 18th Sep. 1948 aged 3 yrs | and their daughter EVA | died 10th Nov. 2000 aged 82 yrs."

    Age at death said to be 60 yrs, 7 months; occupation Traveller. Survived by second wife--first marriage ended in divorce. Death reg'n names all children.
