Biography

Peter KEEGAN was born on 29 June 1833 in Co. CavanG.2,3 He was baptised in Carrowbeg, Co. DonegalG. He married Eliza GODSELL on 7 July 1852 in Cullen, TipperaryG.4 He died on 24 August 1909, at age 76.5 He was buried on 26 August 1909 in St John’s Church of Ireland, CoolbanagherG.5
Peter was a schoolmaster, and the son of John Keegan, a Scripture Reader. He was enumerated in the 1901 census at Windgate, Delgany, Co. Wicklow, and described as a school master, aged 68. Enumerated in the same household were his wife Eliza (aged 67), daughter Margaret A. (44) and granddaughters Eva (18) and Alice (6). There is some doubt about his county of birth; according to the 1901 census it was Co. Cavan and not Co. Donegal.1,6,7
