His obituary appeared in the Irish Times as follows:
“The death occurred yesterday at his home, 2, Wynnsward Park, Clonskeagh, Dublin, of Mr. Sydney W. Meredith. He was 77 years old. He was born in Ballintubber, Co. Leix. On leaving school, he went to Dublin where he studied first in the old Royal University and later in Trinity College, graduating in 1907. While attending college, he taught for a while in Wexford and later in Kilkenny.
In 1907, Mr. Meredith joined the staff of Masonic Boys' School. As a French teacher he spent the rest of his career in the school, retiring in 1954 after 47 years' service. For scores of former pupils he was a link with their schooldays, and for many years he was president of the Past Pupils' Association. He was also a well-known and active member of the Masonic Order.
Mr. Meredith was a keen walker and climber. He was also for many years a member of Milltown Golf Club. He was a proficient woodworker and gardener.
He is survived by his widow and two step-sons.”.
