Edward WILKINSON

M, #779, b. before 1777

Biography

Edward WILKINSON was born before 1777. He married Elizabeth.
The Coolbanagher parish records show the following baptisms for Wilkinsons of Morett:
12 Aug 1804 Edward Wilkinson s/o Edward and Elizabeth of Morett
11 Mar 1807 Thomas and Anne s/o and d/o Edward & Elizabeth of Morett
It is assumed that Elizabeth is also a child of Edward and Elizabeth on the basis of the naming convention applied to the children of Samuel Meredith and Elizabeth Wilkinson and the fact that she was from Morett when married. However there is no documentary evidence for this.

For more information about the Wilkinsons of Queen’s County see the website: irish-merediths.com/.

William Arthur FRENCH1

M, #785, b. about 1804, d. before 1901

Parents

FatherRobert FRENCH b. about 1756, d. March 1840
MotherJane b. before 1768

Biography

William Arthur FRENCH was born about 1804 in Co. Cavan, IrelandG.1 He was baptised on 15 February 1804 in Killeshandra, Co. CavanG.2 He married Martha KELLY in 1837.1 He died before 1901.
He was a Weaver. The middle name of Arthur is given on his son Robert’s baptism record.
He was recorded in the census of 1841 at Drumcrow, Killishandra Parish, Co. Cavan, Ireland, and was described as “William French, male aged 30, head of family, married 1837, a Weaver, can read, b. Co. Cavan”. He was enumerated with Martha (wife aged 22), Robert (son, aged 3) and Samuel (son, aged 4 months). There are also entries for Robert (father, died 1840 aged 84) and Richard (died 1840 aged 1 month).
He is assumed to be the William, son of Robert and Jane French, who was christened in 1804, but that could have been an older sibling of the same name; the 1841 census implies that the William of the current entry was born in 1811, although the reliability of the census information is not clear.
The family of William is listed as an adjacent entry to that of Samuel's family on the 1841 Census. It is assumed that they are brothers and that Robert d. 1840 who is named as the father of William is also the father of Samuel, despite 20 year's apparent age difference. This is supported by baptismal records of Samuel son of Robert and Jane.
The Valuation Revision lists record the tenancy of the house at Drumcrow South as passing from William French to John French (1881) to William French (1886) to Martha French (1892) and to another person (entry illegible) in 1911.1

It is Plot 16 on Ord. S. map 24 and the house is 16b. Presumably this is the plot leased by his father Samuel who was described as a farmer.1,2
