Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ BARRER![Barrer Family Line](../ui/tree-red-01.gif)
F, #533, b. 18 July 1865, d. 20 November 1904
Parents
Biography
Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ BARRER was born on 18 July 1865 in Kilgarriff, Co. Limerick, Ireland
G. She married
Francis William FANNIN on 30 March 1903 in Braeside, Vulture Street, South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
G.
1 She died on 20 November 1904, at age 39, in Kilgarriff, Co. Limerick, Ireland
G.
2 She emigrated to Australia with her daughter in 1897: the passenger list of the ship Oruba records a ‘Mrs’ Lizzie Barrer (aged 30) and a Miss L Barrer (aged 10) departing from England on 29 Apr 1897, their destination being Sydney (a journey of 75 days).
It seems that they then returned to Ireland between 1897 and 1901, as they are both recorded in the Ireland census of 31 March 1901 in the household of George Barrer in Kilgarriff, Co. Limerick, Ireland. They are described as:
- Lizzie Barrer, Daughter, Church of Ireland, able to read & write, aged 34, Farmer's daughter, Not Married, born in Co. Limerick, and
- Lizzie Barrer, Grand Daughter, Church of Ireland, able to read & write, aged 10, Scholar, born in Co. Limerick.
A few months after that census she emigrated again to Australia under the Assisted Immigration programme, but this time without her daughter. She left London on 29 Jul 1901 on the ship Duke of Norfolk, arriving in Brisbane, Queensland on 27 Sep 1901.
She was living at John Street, Paddington, Brisbane in Queensland, Australia at the time of her marriage in March 1903; the certificate records her as the daughter of George Barrer and Elizabeth Mee, birthplace Kilgarriff, a housekeeper age 35.
She returned to Ireland sometime during the following 12 months or so and died at Kilgariff in Nov 1904 (described as Lizzie ‘Fanning’ on the death certificate), her brother Thomas Barrer being the informant. Her father had died in July of that year, so perhaps she had returned for that reason.
