William Haggerty
M, #10568, b. 1819, d. 18 September 1862
Parents
Biography
- Marriage: 30 November 1848; Eliza Lannin; Home of Richard Raycraft, Rochester, NY
- Marriage: 23 October 1852; Jane McCarthy; St Lukes Episcopal Church, Rochester
- Death: 18 September 1862; Wellington, Missouri
- Burial: Old Catholic Cemetery, Lexington, Missouri
- Note: 1850 census shows William and Eliza Hagerty, ages 30 and 24 respectively, living in Brighton, Monroe county, NY. William was a labourer; both born Ireland.
It appears this is also the William whose first wife was Eliza Lannin. Mt Hope Cemetery shows burial of Eliza Hagerty, age 24 (?), of Medina St, cause of death "child bed." If so, William married Jane McCarthy 2 weeks after Eliza was buried. It appears that this family became Catholic as several are known to be buried in a Catholic cemetery. Probably Jane was Catholic prior to her marriage.

Next time you go out to the cemetery to get pictures for someone, would you mind checking the kiosk for a woman with the last name of Hagerty (Haggarty or Hegerty or any other version)? I am looking for the mother of my grgrandmother Susan Hagerty and all we know about Susan is that she was born in Rochester, NY, in June of 1849. We think her Mother died around the time of her birth or shortly thereafter. Susan's Father's name was William, but he remarried and moved with Susan and new family to IL and then on to MO, presumably working with the railroad as it moved west.
We know Susan's Mother would have been Catholic and likely buried in a Catholic cemetery. We don't know her name, but could you just let me know if there are any Hagerty women buried there about 1849 (+ about 5 years)? Whatever you find, I will know whether to pursue this path or not.
Don't make a special trip. Whenever you happen to be there. And I thank you in advance for this check on her.

Marmaduke was said to be aged 22 and his occupation was given as "candie maker" on the 1880 census for Rochester NY. He had been employed 4 of the preceding 12 months. He is listed in Rochester City Directories, confectioner, up to 1888, when he was a confectioner, bus 240 E. Main and res. 145 Hunter. His son, William, was living with other family members in 1892, suggesting Marmaduke may have died by then.

Harriet Waldron
F, #10574, b. about 1833, d. 1890
Biography
- Birth: About 1833; Ireland
- Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, NY
- Note: This family was added to the Ancestral File database by a descendant who gave Harriet's maiden name as Waldron; as well, her daughter Harriet's marriage record also says Waldron; baptism for son William gives her name as "Harriet Walden Haggerty."
Harriet must have remarried about 1867/68, as she had a daughter named Jones who was 11 in 1880. That daughter was born in Canada, whereas a son aged 7 was born in New York. This suggests the family moved to New York between 1870 and 1873. Her sons Marmaduke and William James were confirmed in the Rochester Episcopal Church in May 1875:
image 146 of 266
In 1880 Harriet's marital status is listed as "M", but her husband, William Jones, is not listed as a member of the household (Rochester, Monroe County, New York 1880 census: NA Film #T9-0863, p. 415D). William was in the household in the 1875 state census.
In 1872 when her son Theodore was baptised, Harriet's maiden name was said to be Harriet Haggerty?
Probably the Harriet Jones who was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, October 1890--age not given.

Son named Marmaduke suggests Thomas came from the Bandon/Clonakilty area of County Cork, but could be circumstantial. I cannot find this family in the 1861 Canadian census, although if birth places are correct for their children, they should have been in Addington county at that time. There was another Haggerty family there from 1851 onward: see separate entry for family of Daniel Hagerty, born abt 1824, Ireland.
After Thomas died Harriet remarried. Soon after that she and her family moved to Rochester, New York, where Edward and Catherine Tanner (nee Haggerty) were living. In the 1875 state census for Rochester the Jones family was listed next to the Tanner family. For that reason, I am now tentatively placing Thomas as a brother of George, Marmaduke and Catherine--see notes under other names. What ties them all together is the presence of the name Marmaduke and them living adjacent to one another in the USA.
Birth of daughter Emma in November 1864 suggests Thomas died sometime between 1864 and 1868, at which time his widow had remarried and had another child.
