Note: Death registration for daughter Catherine gives her mother's name as Eliza.
- Marriage licence bonds show Marmaduke Heagerty married Eliza Bateman in the Diocese of Cork and Ross in 1827.
- Baptism, Rosscarbery parish: 1794 February 2nd, Elizabeth, daughter of William Bateman. Thomas Hewwett & John Hagerty sponsors? (It is known that a Mary Haggerty from Woodfield married George Hewitt in 1823.)
- Death reg'n for Eliza Hegarty, 1874, age 80, Cork? Not likely to be this person. I would have expected her death to be registered in either Clonakilty or Skibbereen districts? And as Marmaduke was widowed and in the USA in 1860 then it couldn't be the same woman. I think she must have died before Marmaduke went to the USA and that would have been before civil registration.
Note: Marmaduke Heagerty; Marriage licence index shows an 1827 marriage between Marmaduke Heagerty and Eliza Bateman in the Diocese of Cork and Ross. Heagerty was a common spelling in the Clonakilty region and there were also Batemans there. Date, etc. makes this couple strong candidates for the parents of the Catherine who married Edward Tanner.
