Hyram Haggerty

• Note: This child is a bit of a mystery. Elenor's husband, Adam Haggerty, died about 1860 (she was a widow for the 1861 census). In 1871 Hyram was living with Elenor and six of her and Adam's older children. In 1881, aged 13 and after Elenor had married Nesbitt Reid, Hyram was living with Nesbitt, Elenor and Elenor's two daughters, Ann (26) and Hannah (22). Hyram may have been a son of one of the daughters or a member of the Reid family?? No further information available at this time.

• Note: Age reported on 1870 marriage reg'n was 24; 1851 census reports her as 9 years old in 1852. In 1861 Susanna was 17, living with the John and Nancy McInroy family; the 1861 census lists the McInroy family next to the family of Susanna's uncle and aunt, John and Elizabeth Haggerty. I assume she was a servant in the McInroy household.
  Cannot find any further solid records for this couple searching 1871 and 1881 in Canada and 1880 in USA, but perhaps a possibility?

The marriage registration give his age as 29; the 1881 census has him 24, living in Moore tp; the 1901 census says 9 October 1857 and 1911 says October 1855; his death registration indicates he was aged 56 years and 6 months (it also has his father's name as Jacob Huff, so there were definitely some errors there--his mother's name was correctly given as Jane Hughes).

• Note: Thomas was a merchant at the time of his marriage. In 1891 he was living with his parents in West Gwillimbury, age 27, occupation farmer. There is contradictory information on his birth date. In 1901 it was given as 30 January 1864; in 1911 it was Jan. 1864; on his death registration (#40625: informant was his son Harold) he was said to be 67 years old and his birth date was 31 December, but the year was not stated. Lived at 73 Kennedy Ave, Toronto (also residence of Harold) at the time of his death. Cause of death cardiac failure, carcinoma of stomach for 2 years.

• Note: WW I Attestation papers online: enlisted October 1914, Regina: height 5' 4 1/2 "; dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair; next of kin, his father, Samuel Huff. A man from the Canadian War Museum told me that the regiment that "Uncle Ed" served with saw some of the most horrific battles and conditions of the war, and he was surprized that there was no mention of his name in any of the war records for that regiment. He was never injured. Ed and Georgie had no children.
