John Justice
M, #6626, b. about 1808, d. after 1890
Parents
Biography
- Birth: About 1808; County Cork, Ireland
- Marriage: 20 June 1830; Susannah Morley; Ballymodan Parish, County Cork, Ireland
- Note: An item in a newspaper (appears to be the Belleville paper) provided by Jean Cruickshank: "NOTICE. MY WIFE, Susannah Justice, having left my bed and board without just cause or provocation, taking the four children with her, I hereby give notice that I will not account for any debts she or they may contract after this date. JOHN JUSTICE. 4th con. Huntingdon, March 30, 1857." However, Susannah was listed in John's household in 1861, 1871 and 1881.
In 1852 the family lived in a one-story frame house.
1871 Census: living on Lot 3, 4th Concession, owners. John's occupation was given as shoemaker. (Note, this is the same lot as the James Haggerty farm.) In 1852 John's age was given as 40, Susannah 45. In 1881 John was 79. In 1891 he is listed as being 77 years old, still a shoemaker, widowed, living in the same household as Francis Harn, also a shoemaker. John was the informant when his wife died in 1885, but I have been unable to find any record of his death.
There was also a Thomas Justice in the household aged 43 in 1852 and 72 in 1881--probably a brother of John? As well, a Richard Justice living in Ballymodan parish (the parish where John and Susaannah married) in the early 1800s is possibly another brother.
- Note: Susannah Morley; Both were said to be residents of Ballymodan Parish, County Cork at the time of their marriage (Register, p. 187). (Ballymodan includes the part of Bandon and surrounding area that is south of the Bandon River.)
