Florence Elizabeth HARTNOLL died on 4 April 1926, at age ~44, in Southtown Lodge, Kenton, DevonG.¹

Her obituary was published in the 16th April 1926 edition of the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette, as follows:
"POWDERHAM
The funeral took place here of Mrs. Hitchcock, wife of Mr. A. S. Hitchcock, of Southtown Lodge, Kenton. Deceased had been in failing health for some months, and died on Easter Sunday. By a sad coincidence she was buried on the 17th anniversary of her wedding. Much sympathy is felt for the husband and five young children. The coffin was of polished elm, with brass furniture, and the inscription was:- "Florence Hitchcock; died April 4th, 1926; aged 44 years." Messrs. G. Cockram, P. Soper, J. Wallace, T. Brooks, T. Maunder, and W. Maunder (employees on the Powderham Estate) were the bearers, and the Rector (the Rev. the Hon. H. H. Courtenay) officiated. The immediate mourners were Mr. A. S. Hitchcock (husband), Mr. A: W. Hitchcock (son), the Misses L.. and F. Hitchcock (daughters), Mrs. J. Chown and Mrs. E. Henson (sisters), Mr. S. Hartnoll (brother), Mesdames R. Fennell, S. Hartnoll, and R. Hitchcock (sisters-in-law), Messrs. R. Hitchcock, W. Hitchcock, G. Hitchcock, and R. Fennell (brothers-in-law), and the Misses G. and P. Handford (nieces). Among others present were Messrs. W. Lamacraft, T. E. Lingwell, and G. L. Godbean, Miss Leach and Mesdames J. Vicary, Soper, and Bate.

His obituary was published in the Northern Virginia Daily on Thursday, March 18, 2021, as follows:

“Joseph Anthony Sackett, 90, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away in his home on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 surrounded by his adoring family.

Joe is survived by his daughters Virginia Dixon and husband Glen, and Sharon Harris and husband Chester; sons Michael Sackett and wife Caroline, Charles Sackett and wife Holly, and Donald Sackett and wife Linda; grandchildren Melissa Sackett, David Sackett, Daniel Sackett, Robert Sackett, Allison Topping, Sarah Leonard, Mark Sackett, Joseph Sackett, Michelle Bailey, Nicole Marou, and Brian Miller; as well as 13 great-grandchildren
Preceding Joe in death was his loving wife of 53 years, Vivian Sackett and daughter Judy Miller.

Joe was born to the late Benjamin and Ruth Sackett in Troy, New York on August 28, 1930. He was raised in a Catholic orphanage from the age of 7 until his 17th birthday when he left and joined the Navy. He serviced the Navy from September 1947 until June 1950, after which he went to work for the Hudson Motor Car Company working as a mechanic until 1953. Next, he worked at the Able Tire Corporation where he was a division manager until 1967 when Firestone bought the company out. He then started his own business in Fairfax, Virginia, and in 1971 he moved to Front Royal and started Joe Sackett and Sons, Inc. He retired in April of 2018.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice located at 333 Cork Street #405 Winchester, Virginia 22601.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal, Virginia.”

The account of being raised in a Catholic orphanage from age 7 (1937) to age 17 (1947) is odd, as he was enumerated in the 1940 US census at Poughkeepsie with his mother Ruth, sisters Edna and Anne, and brothers Frederick and James. His mother’s income was $425 from 17 weeks work, and his father was not with them - he was working as a hired man on a farm at Clinton Corners - so there may have been financial difficulties.³
