She was recorded in the 1861 census at 78-79 Gooch Street, Birmingham, and described as a Pawnbroker. Her mother Charlotte Warr was enumerated in the same household. Her will (giving her middle name as Newell) was proved by Francis Marrian and Ralph Heaton. It is unclear why the probate calendar refers to her as a spinster.

It mentioned her children Alfred, Mary Ann, Caroline (wife of Joseph Harding) and Hannah (wife of Joseph Whitehead), her son in law Samuel Parker and his son John Heaton Parker, and Samuel Brown, a gun finisher. The IGI also records baptisms of John (1803), James (1805), George (1830) and James (1834) to parents John and Mary Heaton, but it is unclear whether these are the same parents as considered here.

Caroline HEATON
F, #2513, b. about 1816, d. 1886
Parents
Biography
Caroline HEATON was born about 1816.
1 She and
Joseph HARDING were married on 1 August 1839 in Aston Juxta, Birmingham.
2 She died in 1886, at age ~70, in Aston Registration District.
1 The IGI records a Caroline Heaton b. 23 Sep 1825 and bapt. 11 Jun 1828 with parents John and Mary Heaton. However, her age in various census entries implies a date of birth ca. 1816, which is consistent with newspaper notices describing Hannah as the 3rd daughter and Harriet as the youngest. As the IGI’s baptism date of 11 June 1828 is the same as that of her siblings Esther, Hannah, Harriet and John, perhaps the birth date has been mis-transcribed and should be 23 Sep 1815.
