  • Marriage: 8 December 1836; Ann Howe; West Gwillimbury, Canada West (Ontario)
  • Death: 30 March 1882; West Gwillimbury, Ontario

has John Huff, married to Anne Howe, died 1882, Lot 5, 3rd Concession, West Gwillimbury. This man was said to be born in England on the death registration (#16196) and aged 70, reported by his son Jeremiah. John (of Cappagh) Meredith

M, #12085, d. 22 December 1901

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: Queen's County, Ireland
  • Christening: 8 June 1834; Ballymoyle, Rosenallis parish, Queen's County
  • Marriage: 5 January 1880; Tamar Metcalf; Maryborough, Queen's County, Ireland
  • Death: 22 December 1901; Cappagh, Queen's county
  • Burial: 25 December 1901; St. Peter's Church, Maryborough, Queen's County
  • Note: Charles' land (Block #7, Cappagh) passed on to a John Meredith in 1876; assumed that John was a son of Charles. The 1834 baptism is possibly/probably? for this man.
In the 1901 census John was a widower, aged 66. Three of his children were living with him at that time. They lived in a 3-room house with walls made of brick or stone, a roof of thatch or wood and 4 windows at the front of the house.
He was probably the John who died in 1901 at the age of 69 and also the John whose death was registered the first quarter of 1902, age 67. Estate of John Meredith of Cappagh, farmer: probate granted to George Duncan Esquire (£245).
Block #7 was not recorded as having passed on to Charles (assumed to be his son) until 1906 (note, it was not unheard of for there to be a gap of several years before the change in title was recorded). The family was Church of Ireland.
  • Note: Tamar Metcalf; Register originally gave year as 1879--correction made to indicate should be 1880; witnesses: James Meredith and Janey Connor.

Family: Tamar Metcalf (b. about 1843)
