In 1881 he was still farming in West Gwillimbury, age 65; in 1891 he was 75.

Margaret Ann (Maggie) Haggerty

F, #714, b. 18 August 1865, d. 4 April 1934

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 18 August 1865; Hastings County, Ontario
  • Christening: 21 October 1866; Stirling Parish, Hastings County, Ontario
  • Death: 4 April 1934; Chicago, Illinois
  • Burial: Montrose Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois
  • Note: Baptism sponsors were Thomas Burke and Margaret Rodgers. A Margaret Haggerty was living in Chicago, Cook County Illinois in 1880 (p. 089 Chicago E.D. 178 Federal Population Schedule IL 1880 Federal Census Index IL20178403: Ancestry.com website).
In 1920 Margaret A. Panschow, wife of Charles, was 54 years old. She and Charles were living in the same household as her daughter (Mabel), son-in-law and grand-daughter. The census indicated Margaret had immigrated in 1873. In 1930 she was 64 and?? She had married at 19 and was able to read and write. She and both of her parents were born in "Canada-Eng" (instructions to enumerators indicated that they were to indicate English or French for Canadian-born residents). Note that this was an error, as her father was actually born in Ireland. In 1930 Margaret indicated she had immigrated to the USA in 1876. I have no idea where she and her mother lived prior to that time--I have not been able to find them on either the Canadian 1871 or the American 1870 census.
Margaret's death certificate (Illinois Certificate # 6031615) indicates that she died of a coronary occlusion. Her birth date was given as August 18, 1864, birthplace as "New London, Canada" and her father was named as being James Haggerty. This information was provided by her son, Howard E. Panschow of 4821 N. Kildare Avenue, Chicago. Margaret's address at the time of her death was the same as her son's, so I assume she moved to his home after Charles died. It also said that her occupation was housewife, and that she had spent 49 years in this occupation. Our Saviours Lutheran Church (Chicago) Burial record gives her birth date as 18 August 1864, death 4 April 1934 and burial date 7 April. The birth year of 1864 is not correct, as is substantiated by the baptism record and the fact that she gave her age as 19 when she married.
  • Note: Charles William Panschow; I believe this marriage record is for our Margaret Haggerty, daughter of John Haggerty and Jane Smith. 1930 census indicates that Charles married at 22 and Margaret at 19.

Family: Charles William Panschow (b. 5 September 1862, d. 2 December 1933)

Jane Ann (Jennie) Haggerty

F, #720, b. 2 May 1873, d. 27 August 1911

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 2 May 1873; Middlesex Co., Ontario
  • Death: 27 August 1911; Melbourne, Ontario, Canada
  • Burial: Longwoods Cem, Melbourne, Ontario
  • Note: Unmarried; tombstone: "Jennie" died August 27, 1911 age 36 year, 3 months, 25 days. This would suggest she was born in 1875. The 1881 census lists "Ann Jane" six years old. In 1891 "Jane" was 15. The 1901 Caradoc census gives a birth date of May 2, 1875 for Jane A. Haggerty. In 1911 she was living with her widowed sister, Maggie Fisher. Family photo in possession of Maggie's daughter in 1990s names three daughters as Margaret, Mary Jane (must be this daughter) and Amy, as does the 1942 Haggerty Family book (eldest sister Margaret was a source for info on the family when Florence Huff Haggerty compiled her family records). So it appears the family recorded her as Jane Ann or Ann Jane on official records, but gave her name as Mary Jane otherwise--wierd!
Ontario death reg'n "Jennie Haggarty" #19832: cause of death chronic litteremia?, acute asthma; unmarried, birth date given as 2 May 1876, Lot 20, appears to be R 1N, Caradoc tp; informant was Andrew "Haggarty" of Melbourne.

Anne Haggerty

F, #721, b. 1875, d. 1875

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 1875; Middlesex Co., Ontario
  • Death: 1875
  • Note: There is no burial record for an Anne Haggerty at Longwoods Cemetery where her parents and their other children were buried. Upon reflection, I suspect that FHH had Mary Jane and Anne confused. It seems likely that Mary Jane died in infancy, and that the records attributed to Anne Jane, Jennie and Jane A. are for this child, born May 2, 1875.
