THOMASON_With great love and respect for Roger Thomason who passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2006 with his wife beside him. Predeceased by his daughter Kendra Laureen Elizabeth; parents John and Margaret; niece Rhonda Thomason; nephew Greg Thomason. Roger is survived by [two children, 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers, etc.]. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethune Community Hall with Darrell Reine officiating. Interment in Bethune Cemetery.

John Hagertie

- Marriage: 28 February 1828; Mary Hawkins; Kilmeen parish, County Cork, Ireland
- Note: Florence Huff Haggerty believed this may have been the John Haggerty who settled in Bathurst Twp., near Peterborough, Ontario in 1820. His descendants are unknown. However, I think there is a good chance that our John remained in Ireland. There is a February 28, 1828 marriage record in the Kilmeen Parish Register of a John Hagertie, resident of Kanturk (about 50 km north of Ballineen), marrying Mary Hawkins of Garough (a townland in Kilmeen Parish). There is also a February 22, 1829 baptism record for George Hagertie, son of John and Mary of Garough, probably this same couple. An 1860 Ballymoney marriage (Samuel Bateman to Susan Hawkins) names a George Hegarty as a witness to the marriage. The Batemans in the parish were known to be friends of our Haggertie family. (In those days the name Haggerty was spelled in a variety of ways, so the different spelling is not significant.) This family could be the family of our John, and if so, they probably remained in Ireland.
The Kilmeen vestry minutes record a John Haggertie was a parishioner in 1804. There was a Hegarty household in Kilmeen parish when I visited there in 2003, but I did not meet any of the family and was informed they were members of the Catholic faith.
- Note: Mary Hawkins; John Hagertie, Police Constable of Kanturk, married Mary Hawkins of Garough, Kilmeen. This was probably a different John Hagertie, as it seems unlikely that the John born in 1777 wouldn't have married and started a family until 1828. He may have been the next generation? Or it may be that Mary was a resident of Kilmeen and John was not?
