Simeon Rombough Barnhart

  • Death: 2 December 1909; Hawkestone, Oro tp, Simcoe county, Ontario
  • Burial: East Oro Cemetery, Oro Twp, Simcoe County
  • Note: In the early 1850s the family returned to South Fredericksberg Twp and then later to Oro Twp in Simcoe County. The 1871 Census identifies Simeon as a Quaker of Dutch ancestry. He was then farming 150 acres at lot 19, 9th concession of Oro twp. Later he moved to Hawkestone.
    Death reg'n # -26962-1909: cause of death appears to be bowel calculus?; informant D'Arcy Boulton Barnhardt, 17 Beatrice St, Toronto.
  • Note: Mary Wakem; Barnhart Family History gives marriage date as 1851 and 1871 census gives Mary's age as 35. If these are correct Mary would only have been 16 at the time of her marriage.

Benjamin O. Barnhart

  • Note: In the 1851 Census Benjamin was listed as a harness maker. The 1871 Census indicates he was a Quaker, farming 100 acres Lot 19, 10th Concession. His nationality was originally recorded as "Canadian," but this was crossed out and "German" added in different handwriting. Brothers John, Simeon and Hiram farmed nearby. In 1901 Benjamin had apparently remarried. I will need to check interening censuses to determine mother of daughter Elizabeth A. At this time Benjamin was living at Lot 12 of the 5th concession. In 1901 his mationality is Canadian and religion is Methodist.
