John Meredith

  The 1851 census shows him with his surviving children and says he was born in Canada.
  
  John was a widower, aged 42, living in Lanark county, Canada West (Ontario) in January 1852 (1851 census, Lanark, Bathurst) with 7 children aged 3 to 18. Their religion was Methodist. The agricultural census indicated he lived on Lot 20, 3rd Concession and had 237 acres, 137 of which were under cultivation, 43 of that was in crops and 94 was pasture. His produce included wheat, peas, oats, Indian corn, potatos, apples, maple sugar, wool, and woven "fulled cloth" and flannel. In 1871 he was in Bathurst, Lanark county, aged 62, of English origin, farmer, church of England (Film #C-10,017: Bathurst, div 2, p. 37). In the Lanark County Atlas he is still shown as a farmer on lot 13, Con 3 (150 acres). 1881 finds him a widower
  
  Perth Courier, October 28, 1892. Meredith: Died, at Perth on Sat., 22nd Oct., John Meredith, Sr., in the 84th year of his age.
  Elsewhere in the same paper: On Saturday last an old resident of this county John Meredith, Sr., died in this town at the residence of his granddaughter Mrs. David Nagle and was buried in the old English burying ground on Monday. Mr. Meredith was born in Ireland in 1809 and came to Canada many years ago settling on the 3rd Line Bathurst. Lately he deposed of his farm and lived with his children in town and in the country. His health had failed him lately. He leaves several sons and daughters.

Ruth Pounder

• Note: Named as mother of the children in the Methodist baptism records; maiden name from death registration of their son John (1838-1913) and daughter Elizabeth; died before January 1852 census.
  Death registration of daughter Elizabeth Sheil indicates Ruth was born Ireland. Other Pounders born Ireland and living in Lanark county in 1851/2 were Mary, age 72 (guessing she was Ruth's mother (note: eldest dau of Ruth was Mary Jane) and in her household Eliza 36 born Ireland and Dalinda 25 born Canada, indicating the family arrived in Canada between and about 1813 and 1825. Also born Ireland was John Pounder age 47 in 1851/2.
  I also checked the Tithes records for Pounder and found several listings for either: Pounder, Pownder, Ponder or Pounders in county Wexford: first names were mostly for Thomas, with one or two of George, William, Robert and Richard.
