John (of Cappagh) Meredith

Note: This is the John Meredith who registered a title to land in Clonenagh parish 15 Jan 1761 (Freeholders list) and who was said to be a resident of Cappagh at that time. He would have to have been of legal age, at least 21 years old, at that time. As noted in Ellen's family history, Rice Meredith of Reary (born abt 1660, buried Rosenallis 1732, age 72) had sons William and John who were heirs to a deed in 1724; they would have had to be at least 21. That is, William and John must have been born no later than 1703. This may be the same John. Alternatively, he may have been the John who married Martha Jones in 1740 and was a son of Mathias Meredith. See separate entries.
Also in 1761 Rice Meredith of Reary was given title to lands in Clonenagh that had belonged to his father-in-law, William Hornby. Those lands were in the townlands of Deerpark and Cappagh.
Alternatively, the John who was in Cappagh in 1761 may have been one of the Wicklow/Dublin Merediths. There was a Rice Meredith listed in the Arklow [County Wicklow] Hearth Rolls of 1669, the name Rice suggesting a connection between the Wicklow and Queen's county Merediths which is now confirmed by DNA analysis.
John may have been (probably was?) the father or grandfather of many of the others listed herein as if children of "Early Clonenagh Merediths."
