All rights reserved: James Stewart Bateman, 1943-2003: James Stewart Bateman, 60, of Cheyenne, died Oct. 19 at his home. He was born May 16, 1943, in Cheyenne. He graduated from Central High and the University of Wyoming. He served in the Air Force. Mr. Stewart was a poet, photographer, inventor and creative-problem solver. He held a patent on a backpack. He was trained as a social worker and last worked at the Outdoor Recreation Department on F.E. Warren Air Force Base. He is survived by his wife, Janet Andrews; a stepdaughter, Sarah W. Andrews; a sister, Joyce France; a stepmother, Emma Bateman; a niece; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Petty Bateman; and his father, James Orvil Bateman. Memorial Services will be 3 p.m. today at Unitarian Universalist Church, 3005 Thomes Ave. The Revs. Robert L. and Makanah E. Morriss will officiate.

    The memorial of John Bateman and Wm Bateman Junior Humbly Showeth that they are British Subjects, Natives of Cumberland in Great Britian and came from there to New Brunswick, John Bateman in the year 1816 & William in the Present year and are now resident in Shediack. John is married & aged 21 years. William not married and age twenty one years and they have never received any land from the Crown, And Pray that your Excellency would be pleased to Grant Each of them Five Hundred Acres, Situation about four miles from Shediack on the Road leading to [illegible] and adjoining Land applied for by Wm Bateman Senior, Frederick [unclear] & John Ah??. In areas of Land in the ?? of Wm Hannington.That the Said Land is in the natural and uncultivated State, no Improvements Having Been made thereon that your Petitioners are of ability and Interest to forthwith to ?? and Improve the Said Lands According to the ??     1851 census says William was 55, a farmer and English, having arrived in New Brunswick in June 1818.
    Died Shediac (West. Co.) William BATEMAN, Esq., age 72, formerly a Capt. of Militia for many years, left widow, seven surviving children. He was born in Ponseby, Co. Cumberland, England and came to America in 1818 where he amassed some amount of Monday [money?] (source: Daniel F. Johnson : Volume 25 Number 984; Rank 64; Date October 26, 1867; County Saint John; Place Saint John; Newspaper Morning Telegraph). And: d. Shediac (West. Co.) 16th inst., Wm BATEMAN, Esq., age 72.   • Note: 1870 Census has Mariah, aged 28, born PA; 1880 has Maria, aged 35, born Ohio, parents born in Ireland. In 1900, 1910 and 1910 she was living with her daughter and son-in-law, the Slaters. In 1900 she indicated that only one of her three children was still living. Apparently died before the 1920 census.
