Adam Hagerty

M, #19881, b. 23 May 1852, d. 19 June 1905

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 23 May 1852; Ireland
  • Marriage: 8 September 1881; Esther Morgan; Boston, Massachusetts
  • Death: 19 June 1905; Boston, Massachusetts
  • Burial: Cedar Grove
  • Note: Boston marriage register indicates Adam was a fireman, age 29, born Ireland, son of Daniel and Mary A. Hagerty. Naturalization record 2 Oct. 1883 gives birth date, resided at 375 Dorchester St, S Boston--name spelled Hagarty on that record. 1890 Boston city directory still at 375 Dorcester, occupation engineer. Death reg'n indicates that Daniel's mother was a Bateman and that he died of ammonia inhalation following an explosion, age 53. He was admitted to hospital June 18 and died the next day.
1900 census household: Adam , engineer; in 1910 Esther was a widow, 54; children Edward M. 27; Mary A. 26, Annie T. 22 and Reuben K 19. In the 1930 census Reuben stated that his father was born in "South Ireland," so presume this family came from Cork. His mother being a Bateman also suggests either Cork or Kerry.

Melissa Wentworth

F, #19883, b. about 1883

Biography

  • Birth: About 1883; Eddystone, Ontario
  • Note: Age 38 in 1921 census and on immigration record of 1920 (ancestry.ca) which indicates her place of birth, that she was coming from Dover, Delaware where she had lived since December 1918. Prior to that she had lived in Collins Bay, Ontario. She was returning to Canada to live with her husband, Marmaduke Haggerty of Wooler, Ontario. A search of the 1920 census for Delaware finds her living with her sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and Roy Failing. I was able to find their 1908 marriage reg'n which provided the names of her parents as George Wentworth and Sarah Elizabeth Richardson.

Robert Henry Stout

M, #19884, b. 2 September 1871

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 2 September 1871; Coolbaun, Caheragh parish
  • Christening: 10 September 1871; Caheragh Parish, Skibbereen
  • Note: Name and dates from Caheragh parish register.
In 1929 Nicholas and Robert, 55, sailed on the Letitia from Montreal to Glasgow, Scotland, arriving 11 October. They said they would be going to the Kensington Hotel, Great Victoria Street, Belfast (presumably on their way to County Cork). They returned to Canada, sailing from Cobh, Cork to Halifax on the Aurania, arriving 3 February 1930. This latter record indicates that Robert had previously been in Canada from May 1897 until October 1929. Their close relative in Ireland was their brother Henry of Coolbawn, County Cork (near Skibbereen). Their closest relative in Canada was their sister, Mrs. John Lambert of Canifton, Ontario. This would seem to confirm that neither of these brothers had married.

John Hegarty

M, #19892, d. 1879

Parents

Biography

  • Christening: 12 June 1820; Abbeystrewry parish, County Cork
  • Death: 1879; Smorane, Creagh parish, County Cork
  • Note: When John married in 1849 he was a resident of what initially looked like "Incourane", Creagh parish, but after looking at the list of townlands in Creagh parish I feel certain it should be Smorane. He was a farmer, as was his father William. He was said to be 26 unless I misread the record, as it seems as if he must be the John who was the son of William and Susanna, who was baptised in 1820. I may have goofed here, and these records may be for two different men, although I think it unlikely.
Father of George who lived in Smorane--this is probably the John who was in Smorane on the Griffiths Valuation, 1853. There was also a William in Smorane in 1853 and William was the only Hegarty in Smorane in the Tithes in 1832.
  • Note: Catharine Hewitt; Married by license

Susanna Lannin

F, #19893, b. about 1783, d. 12 January 1862

Biography

  • Birth: About 1783; County Cork, Ireland
  • Death: 12 January 1862; Smorane, Creagh parish, County Cork
  • Note: Some baptisms for Willilam's children name his wife as Susanna. I think it likely the 1810 MLB marriage of William Hegarty and Susanna Lannin is this couple. The Skibbereen and West Carbery Eagle of Jan. 18, 1862, reports the death of Mrs. Susan Hegarty of Smorane on "the 12th inst.", aged 78 years.
