Ida Mary Watrous

F, #16703, b. about 1879

Biography

  • Birth: About 1879; Pennsylvania
  • Note: Ida was said to be 7 months old when the US 1880 census was recorded in June 1880. Her parents were George G. age 32, born PA and Lucretia D. 30, born Newfoundland. In 1901 she is in the household of Andrew and Margaret Scott in Guelph, Ontario, where she is said to be a sister (must be sister-in-law?). She was born 19 November 1879 in the US. In 1911 she is still in Guelph, but listed as a "boarder," her occupation is nurse--there her birth year is given as 1880, which cannot be correct. She does not appear in the Saskatchewan 1916 census, so is assumed to have moved from Ontario to Saskatchewan after that time. Her religion was Congregational, as was that of Benjamin Ralph--that may be how they met?

Ronald (Jack) Bath Hulland

M, #16720, b. 8 March 1893, d. 3 June 1981

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 8 March 1893; Egginton, Derbyshire, England
  • Death: 3 June 1981; Vernon, British Columbia
  • Divorce: Marion Jemima Haggerty
  • Note: 1901 census Egginton, Derbyshire, England: Ronald Bath Hulland, age 5, son of Thomas John and Elizabeth Hulland.
WW I enlistment record dated Toronto, 12 November 1914, for Ronald Hulland: next-of-kin was his mother, Mrs. E. Hulland of Derby, England. His description stated he was 5' 6 3/4", fair complexion, greeny grey eyes and light brown hair. His occupation at the time was Clerk.
In July 1923 Jack entered the USA at the port of Sweet Grass, Montana. His destination at the time was Great Falls, Montana. He was 27 years old, single and a teacher. His last permanent residence was Egginton and his mother, Elizabeth Hulland, was then living in Rock [or Red?] Cliff, Alberta. It's not clear, but it may say he became a naturalized citizen in 1928?
Jack Hulland was a teacher, school principal and school superintendant in Whitehorse, Yukon, where a school has been named after him. The website for the Yukon Historical and Archives association shows a photo of "Hulland House," named for Jack Hulland as he was the longest resident of the home. The house was built in 1947.
Death BC registration 1981-09-008722 is for Ronald Bath Hulland.

Richard Meredith

M, #16724, b. about 1800

Biography

  • Birth: About 1800; Ireland
  • Note: Could be the Richard who was the son of Rice Meredith and Anne Neill, bap 1802, Maryborough? We have no further info
    on him.
Richard and his family sailed from Limerick on the ship "Nor," arriving New York 19 September, 1851. The family included Sarah 25, John 17, Patt 12, Ellen 9, Margaret 8, Richard 7, James 4 and Michael 11 months. In 1860 Richard and Sarah were running a boarding house in Buffalo NY. Youngest children in the household were Mary, Sarah and Eliza, in addition to the 3 apparently eldest sons, John, Patrick and Richard. I assume Sarah could not have been the mother of either John or Patrick. Sarah may have been a 2nd (or 3rd?) wife, and at least Michael must have been her son. There are gaps in the ages of the children that suggest earlier marriages between births of John and Ellen, and possibly either before or after James? I'm inputting these records as if James and Michael were Sarah's sons and the other children of an unknown mother or mothers.
