Charles and Catherine lived in Fergus, Ontario in 1871, where Charles was a merchant. The family is a bit of a mystery, as neither Charles nor his wife can be found either on the 1881 census, nor in the Ontario death records. Their son Albert was living with his grandparents, the Brocks, in 1881.
- Note: Catherine Anne (Kate) Brock; Marriage index indicates that Charles' father was Rice Meredith. Marriage notice published in Elora Observer 27 May 1864.

- Note: Charles was 6 years and 5 months old at the time of his death due to "membranous croup". He was Wesleyan Methodist. An obituary in the Christian Guardian (12 Dec. 1877) gave the cause of death as diptheria. (Ontario birth reg'n # 3246, 1871; death reg'n #16455, 1877)

- Note: Rice was a resident of Montreal in 1831 when he married. It isn't clear just when the family moved to Ontario (then called Upper Canada). A daughter Amelia was apparently buried in Toronto in 1850, but the family is found in Quebec City in the 1851 census. That census indicates that a four-year old son had died in the previous year (i.e., 1851). The family in January 1852 consisted of Rice 47, Amelia 36, Charles 19, Eliza 17, Thomas 14, Frances 12 and Ellen 2 (ages were to be age at birthday in 1852).

- Note: Probably the Thomas "Meridith" living in St. Mary, Hamilton, Canada West (Ontario) in the 1852 census. He was aged 16, born Montreal, occupation shoemaker, Wesleyan Methodist. His father's sisters, Eliza Meredith and Jane Wylie, were also listed in the same district, as was a Charlotte Meredith.
Thomas was a merchant in Guelph in 1871. In 1881 he was a bailiff living in Durham tp., Grey County.
