Charles Bateman

M, #20242

Parents

Biography

  • Marriage: 30 May 1863; Anne Heagerty; Cork, County Cork, Ireland
  • Note: At one time was an auctioneer living in Kinsale
Charles was said to be the son of Michael Bateman and a widower when he married Anne. The Griffiths Valuation shows Michael Bateman holding land in several parishes, including extensive holdings in Woodfield, Kilkerranmore, where there are also Charles, John and Wm Bateman.
Could the following marriage of a widowed Charles, son of Michael, possibly be the same Charles? Seems likely?
Married by License: 11 Jul 1848 Charles BATEMAN wid accountant Cloghnakilty s/o Michael shopkeeper
Elizabeth BATEMAN sp Cloghnakilty d/o Samuel shopkeeper
    wit: Willm Bateman, Michael Bateman
The only death reg'n in Cork district for a Charles Bateman was in 1874, age 29--not likely!
    Two Michaels reg'd Cork: 1870 age 62; 1873 age 58.

George Albert Heagerty

M, #20248, b. 16 May 1877, d. 8 November 1943

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 16 May 1877; County Cork, Ireland
  • Death: 8 November 1943; Aberdeen, Washington, USA
  • Note: In 1905 George and his family lived in Minneapolis. In 1920 George A., 43, was a Captain on a gasoline boat. He had immigrated in 1878 and was naturalized in 1913. In 1930 and 1940 he was said to be a ship builder. In 1905 his wife was Helen, 25, born NY; in 1920 his wife was Mamie, 43, born Nebraska. George's daughter Grace was listed with his parents in 1910, initially suggesting Helen was either ill or had died. Then I found George, "Ella"? and Hubert living in Alaska in 1910--curious that Grace was with her grandparents in Minnesota--perhaps just visiting?
World War I registration indicates George lived at 3805 North, Tacoma, Washington. His nearest relative was Mamie G. Heagerty of the same address. His occupation at the time appears to be master cannery teamster, employed by Moira Sound Alaska. George was described as being of medium height and build, with blue eyes and light brown hair.
He also registered for World War II in 1942, age 64, born 16 May 1877, employed by Greys Harbor Ship Building, Aberdeen; wife Mamie G. Heagerty.
George died at age 66 in Aberdeen, Washington. He was then said to be the son of William A. Heagerty and Elizabeth Brown--someone was muddled.

Family 1: Helen Elizabeth Jenks (b. July 1881, d. after 1910)

Family 2: Mamie G. (b. about 1877)
