    British-born stage and motion picture actor of the 1930s and 40s. Beloved in his role of 'Clarence Oddbody,' the guardian angel, in the 1946 Frank Capra holiday classic "It's a Wonderful Life." Son of Daniel Hegarty and Ellen Gillman Hornibrook Belcher from Bandon, Co. Cork Ireland. They moved to Huddleston Street in Cullercoats, near Newcastle on Tyne, England. (bio by: A.J. Marik)

    Died Feb. 23, 1954, Los Angeles County, California, USA
    Amy's first husband was Arthur Forrest, a famous music hall artist of his day. When he died in 1906. Amy went back 'on the road' with Fred Karno's troupe and met Henry Travers somewhere along the way (her second husband).
    (Note: Cemetery office has confirmed as of April 2013 the marker has not been updated to include her name.)

  • Death: 19 December 1909; Broxash Ashburnham Rd., Eastbourne, England
  • Note: Marriage reg'n names Wm as the son of Henry Heagerty, Master Mariner. At the time Wm was a "merchant's clerk" and lived in Essex county. In the 1891 census he is 36 and lived in Streatham, Wandsworth. His occupation said to be "Clerk Cape of Good Hope." In 1893 his occupation was Government clerk and the family resided at Cloyne, Elmbourne Rd, Upper Tooting, Surrey.
    Probate record names his widow Susanna, confirming this is the correct man. He left a sizable estate of 29,531 pounds.

  • Note: Baptism record names her parents as Susannah and Joseph Cole, Licensed Victualer; dau of Joseph Cole, Wine merchant, when she married.
    In 1861 Susannah was listed with her grandparents, Samuel 53 and Suannah 63 Grew in Bethnal Green. Samuel was an Undertaker. In 1871 she is in household of John and Susanna Grumley in St. Anne, Limehouse. It seems likely that her father had died and her mother remarried. John was a licensed victualer.
    Olive and Susannah were enumerated as visitors in the household of Joseph and Ruth Cooper in Sevenoaks, County Kent. Susannah is said to have been born in London, age 52, widow, mother of 5, all still living.
    Probate granted to Henry Joseph Heagerty, Gentleman and Eric Eldridge Johnson, manufacturer; estate value 16986 pounds.

    In 1912 Henry was "admitted into the freedom of this City [London] by Redemption in the Company of Turners." He was obviously an important man, but why? Google was no help.
    Probate record says he was a resident of Lyonsdown Ave., New Barnet, but had died in a nursing home in New Barnet. Probate grandted to his widow, Hilda Claire Heagerty, nee Griffiths; estate value 26957 pds: a substantial estate--how did he make his money?
    Ancestry tree: parents were unknown--tried contact but no response

  • Note: Age 5 in 1891; birth reg'd Wandsworth district. No further info on this woman? neither a death nor a marriage record found in FreeBMD. However, FamilySearch.org shows a marriage record for Gladys Mabel Heagerty d 4th qtr 1908, Strand district; other names associated with the record are Alfred Clayton Ashby, John Hubert Collins and Agnes Mary Scott; further searching indicates that the groom was John Hubert Collins. Also a marriage listing for Gladys M. Heagerty which includes name Marriott, 1st qtr, St Martin's district. FreeBMD shows marriage of Robert D. Marriott to Phyllis M. Kempson. The 1911 census shows a married woman, Gladys Marie Heagerty, age 25, living in Leeds, born Durham, so she may well have been the woman named in the 1922 marriage record.
    All in all, Gladys is a mystery--perhaps emigrated? But cannot find her anywhere after that 1908 marriage record, at which she must have been a witness.

BR records birth place as Burlington, Vermont. George had remarried by 1920 and was living in Washington state. Unknown whether Helen/Ella died in Alaska or Washington.
