He was described as a Shopkeeper of Kilfinnane on the baptism records of his sons Thomas in 1846 and George James in 1848.

He was described as a Grocer at no. 115 Kilfinnane town in the Valuation Office House Book of 1850, and the Griffith's Valuation of 1852 lists him at no. 115 Main Street, Kilfinnane.

He was described as a Bridewell Keeper of Kilfinnane on the baptism records of his daughters Georgina Elizabeth in 1855 and Sarah Jane in 1858.

He was described as a Keeper in 1872 on his daughter Catherine Anne's marriage certificate.

His death registration in 1890 described him as a widower, aged 80, Bridewell Keeper, place of death Bruff, and informant Catherine A. Tristram of Bruff.3,4,2
