• Note: In 1900 Mearns was living in Walker, Cass county, Minnesota. He was a saloon keeper and indicated that his father was born in Ireland, his mother in England. That census records him as having been born in Maine, but later censuses say he was born in Canada. He was said to be 51 in 1920, indicated that French was his mother tongue and was employed as a foreman in a box factory, still in Walker. In 1930 he was 62 and was living with his daughter Doris and her family in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a janitor in a public library.

• Note: In 1901 Chipman was living in Dalhousie and his occupation was Ship Labourer. World War I Attestation papers indicate born 3 November 1872, but the 1901 census said 1874. Based on the 1881 census and the ages of he other children in the family, 1872 must be correct. When he enlisted his occupation was painter. He was 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches, of medium complexion, blue eyes and brown and grey hair. Chipman enlisted 20 January 1916.

Robert Flory

• Note: Age 23 in 1851. Like his father, Robert was a bricklayer. In 1871 he was living in Kensington, London and in 1881 he was a widower and lived at 2 Amberly Terr (Daws Rd), London. Other household members in 1881 were Elizabeth Rogers, said to be his daughter-in-law, aged 35 and Henry Rogers, aged 8 said to be a son.
  Location and family in 1861 uncertain. The best fit is Robert Flory age 37, the only Robert born in Suffolk, said to be an "Ag Labourer"--perhaps a farm labourer? He had a wife Mary, 34 and children Mary 8, William 4 and Charles 2. That Robert had his father John aged 85, living with him in 1881, so must be a different man--perhaps a cousin?
