Horace Barnhart compiled an extensive record of the history of the Canadian Barnhart/Barnhardt family based on records from the Government Archives, dated 1960 in Toronto. That record was later added to by his brother Edward. Since then Leonard Barnhardt of Alberta and Sharon Haggerty of British Columbia have done additional work on this family.

Note: John was the son of John and Euphemia Wylie and was a widower when he married Minnie Barnhart. He was a resident of Orillia when he married. The 1891 census reveals he had children from his previous marriage: Alice M. 18, Mina L. 16, Allie F. 13. John was then a commercial traveller. In 1881 John and his wife Sarah, with the same three daughters, lived in Oshawa, Ontario and John was a merchant.
Note: Mary Jane (Minnie) Barnhart; Ontario marriage reg'n #10783: witnesses William Barnhart and Agnes Butler. The Barnhart history gives marriage date as 31 March 1886, and location as Toronto. Marriage registration reveals this is not correct!

Note: Susanna is not listed with this family in the Barnhart Family History. She is listed as age 17 in the 1871 Census. The marriage record spells her name "Susannah". Her birth place is as stated in the marriage registration. In the 1881 census George and Susanna C. Crawford and two children are living in Oro tp. I remember one of my aunts telling me that her "Aunt Susanna" went to California. I can't find this family in either Canada or the USA after 1885 when the birth of their daughter Margaret was registered.
Note: George Crawford; Marriage registration #7910-1873: George was a yeoman, son of William and Sarah Crawford, age 24, born in Oro tp; witnesses were Henry Crawford and Mary Jane Barnhart, both of Oro.
