• Note: William Hales was the son of Rev. Samuel Hales. It is speculative that he was a direct ancestor of Susanna and Mary Hales. What is certain is that the Hales sisters lived in Kilbrittain parish, that Samuel was the rector there in the late 1700s and that William was his only son. William entered Trinity College, Dublin , at the age of 18. He was awarded the , and appointed a Fellow in 1768 and later became a professor of oriental languages. In 1788 he left Trinity College to take a position as rector of Killeshandra parish, County Cavan. He remained there until his death.
