Julia A. Murphy

F, #19275, d. 1949

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: Clearagh, Kilmurry Parish, Cork
  • Christening: January 1866; Kilmurry parish, County Cork
  • Death: 1949; Massachusetts, USA
  • Note: Baptism record: http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie> sponsors were Geoffrey Connell and Joanna Riordan.
From Jack Murphy's website: Ellen, 20 and Julia 17 immigrated in 1883. "They came on the Catalonia into Boston on April 30, 1883. I transcribed the list and sent it to ISTG (Immigrants Ships Transcribers' Guild) for posting." The ship sailed from Liverpool via Queenstown, Cork (now Cobh).
Family story is that there were three children, one who died in infancy whose name was originally thought to be Jane, but for whom the cemetery record said it was John. That suggested a son John died in infancy and then another son was born and also named John. However, the 1900 census indicates Julia had two children, both living, Jeremiah and John. John was born December 1894. In 1910 only one of three children, the John born in 1894, was still living. The third child must have been born and died between the 1900 and 1910 censuses--perhaps that was Jane?.

Family: John J. Murphy (b. 1859, d. 1906)
