  " . . . earliest settler to develop its [Augusta's] advantages was Hugh Hagerty, who came about 1750 and located on land, which he cultivated, and upon which he resided until his death."" (p. 399)
  Sussex county is in the uppermost tip of New Jersey. In its centre is Augusta, in the midst of a triangle formed by connecting Wantage, Branchville and Newton (aka Newtown and New Town), where these Hagertys/Haggertys lived.
  Public member trees on ancestry say Hugh Haggerty was born about 1725 in Ireland and died in Sussex county NJ in 1795.
  Will extract available on ancestry: Hugh Haggerty, Newtown, Sussex county, date (probate?) 20 Augst 1795: named children James, Margaret, Elizabeth, Mary, and Nancy Stull and grandchildren Uzeal Haggerty and Nancy Bucklor. Witnesses were Silas Hopkins, Christopher Haggerty and John Youngs.

• Note: Earliest record I found is the 1880 census, when he was said to be 11 months old. Not found in 1900; in 1910 Sim age 31, single, farm labourer in Bath, Clinton county, MI; 1920 Lee S. age 39, living with his parents then aged 70 and 69;
  Find a Grave:
  Records from ancestry.com, including draft registrations for both WW I and WW II; census records,
  Signature on various documents show he recorded his name as Lee Sim Hagerty; birth name appears to have been Simeon, sometimes shows as Simon.
  WW I draft, September 1918: nearest relative his mother "Gusta" Hagerty; description short, slender blue eyes, brown hair; occupation "Labor."
