Note: Census records show born New Jersey: 1850 age 47, 1860 age 58, living in Clinton county, Michigan; 1880 age 78 wid, living with daughter Maria Ferster in Nebraska. Birth places of children shown on 1850 census suggest they must have moved from New York state to Michigan about 1835/36.
Appointed postmaster in Clinton county, Michigan, 13 July 1848.
Find a Grave shows burial in Nebraska, dates 31 Aug 1801 to 15 May 1894; photo shows this to be a recent looking stone. There is another tombstone back in Michigan, photo showing a very weathered stone, must surely be the original:

It shows date of death as 17 October 1868, age 61 y, 8 m, 9 d, which would mean born 8 Feb. 1807.
These seem likely to be the same man, but???
If death date for Ada is correct, and if there was only one Hugh, then he remarried 3 days after his first wife died!
