Camille Higgin
F, #14185, b. about 1861, d. 22 July 1929
Parents
Biography
- Birth: About 1861; New Orleans, USA
- Marriage: 12 November 1879; William Meredith; St John's Church, Monkstown, Dublin county, Ireland
- Death: 22 July 1929; Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- Burial: 24 July 1929; St. Johns Cemetery, Markham
- Note: At the time of her marriage, Camille was a resident of Kingstown, Ireland (now Dun Laoghaire).
In 1879 Camille Higgin was said to be from Liverpool. The 1911 census has her as 50 years old and indicates she was born in the USA; two of her three children were still living. In August 1915 Camille was listed as the next of kin for her son, Herbert, when he enlisted in the Canadian armed forces. Her address was 1 Grand Canal Quay, Dublin.
Camille and William evidently moved to Ontario about 1919: Ontario death registration #4799 or #5764 (both numbers stamped on record): Death is registered as "Carmille" Meredith, age 70, born New Orleans, died Toronto General Hospital; cause of death post-operative pneumonia in a severe diabetic, contributory, diabetes and amputation of leg for gangrene; father Joseph Higgin, born England; mother unknown born New Orleans; had lived in Ontario for 10 years, informant her son William E. L. Meredith of Stoufville, Ontario.

Marriage registered Rathdown district, 4th qtr, 1879: witnesses Rice Meredith and [P.C. Bigges?].

Prison record for Herbert B. Meredith, aka William Meredith, of 1 Grand Canal Quay, Dublin. In 1912, age 3, he was admitted to Mountjoy prison, Dublin, for embezzlement of "the sum of 7 17 2". It seems likely he emigrated to Canada upon being discharged from prison.

Nicholas Pulver Smith
M, #14197, b. about 1827, d. 10 June 1905
Biography
- Birth: About 1827; Sidney tp, Hastings County, Upper Canada (Ontario)
- Marriage: About 1848; Nancy; Canada West (Ontario)
- Death: 10 June 1905; Percy tp, Northumberland county, Ontario
- Note: Not documented that Nicholas Pulver was the son of Nicholas Smith and Polly Sharp. May not be correct.
1851 census was a blacksmith in Sidney tp, Hastings county. In 1881 the family was living in Percy tp, Northumberland county--Nicholas was aged 52 and still working as a blacksmith. In 1901 the family was still living in Percy tp. and "Nicholas P. Smith" is still listed as a blacksmith. Here Nicholas' birth date is listed as 25 December 1825--I am sceptical about the year, as in earlier censuses Nicholas was two years older than Nancy, and the date given for Nancy fits better than 1825 for Nicholas.
Ontario death registration #20650-1905 Northumberland, Percy tp: Nicholas Pulver Smith, Lot 17, Con 3; Blacksmith; born Hastings county; blacksmith, married; died 10 June 1905, age 79 yrs, 5 mos, cause of death Senile decay, 1 week; informant was S. Osborne.
