Note: Augustine Penix went to live with his Aunt Lydia Fairlamb in Pennsylvania about 1876/77, some months after his mother's death. Initially they were in Chester City and then moved to Hopewell, near Oxford. "In Oxford, General Augustine Penix learned a trade [which trade is unspecified] which he followed in Philadelphia for a time before coming south to settle in Montgomery Alabama [about 1891/92] where he and his family lived until 1914 when they removed to southwest Texas to Karnes city, Karnes county, about midway between San Antonio and corpus Christie. There he died of a paralytic stroke in 1920." (Letter written by Augustine's son-in-law, Dr. J. L. Brown in 1945). Other than referring to Augustine as "General" there is no mention of his military service.

Note: Mary was 8 years old on the 1871 census. Her age is reported as 8 in 1881 as well. Perhaps the enumerator thought it unlikely there would be two children so far apart in age and in his final copy changed 18 to 8? In 1891 she is listed as 27 years old.
Birth place from marriage registration; age 29.
Obituary in Vancouver Sun, August 5, 1946, indicates Minnie was survived by her three sons, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She had lived at 3564 West 28th Ave. in Vancouver.
