• Note: The will index lists a Thomas Forbes died 1843 Shenango Twp (Will Book 5, p. 284). The cemetery transcript lists a Thomas Forbes, died 21 January 1861, age 59. The 1840 Census has a Thomas Forbes in Shenango, aged in his 30s, no others listed in household. In the 1850 census there is a Thomas Forhans, age 45 and born in Ireland who may be this Thomas. Also in his household were: Sarah Hover, 43; John Smoothfield, 8; and Mary Smoothfield, 3, all born Mercer County (the next family listed is that of John McBride). Thomas later married Sara Hoover/Hover. There were no other Smoothfields in the county and the family of these two children is unknown. In 1860 a Thomas Forbes, said to have been born in PA was living in Shenango tp. with his two daughters, Jane 10 and Margaret 7. His farm was worth $5800 and his personal estate $600. The 1873 Landowners Map on the Mercer County Web Site shows a Thomas Forbes owning a farm in Shenango, but there is no Thomas Forbes listed in the 1870 census.

  . Thomas was said to be 12 years old in 1821 when the family immigrated from Ireland. His burial record says he was 59 at the time of his death in 1861.
  Milton Sweesy noted that Thomas' will indicated that he had a daughter Jane, son Thomas, brother George and a sister Jane Burrows. His will was registered 22 January 1864, executors Robert Stewart and John Welch.

Placement speculative.
