Edward H. Bateman
M, #4524, b. 20 March 1799, d. before 1880
Parents
Biography
- Birth: 20 March 1799; County Cork, Ireland
- Note: Land Petitions of the Province of New Brunswick, 1827 (F4208) notes: . . .The Petition of Edward Bateman on behalf of his mother, Elizabeth Bateman, a widow . . . Grindstone Cape . . . New Bandon . . ."
Edward Bateman is identified as the third son in Elizabeth Bateman's will (written in 1827). He and his sister Catherine were the major heirs and were named co-executors of their mother's estate.
I believe this is the same Edward who married Betty Mills, widow, in Caradoc Twp., Ontario and was recorded on the 1851 census in Caradoc (Concession 2, Lot 11). Edward and Betty's family is recorded in the Family History Center data base. Betty's maiden name was Fee, and she is buried in Holton Cemetery, Jackson County, Kansas.
Two descendants have submitted information on this family. I have a copy of a family group sheet which claimed that Edward (Ned) had a nephew, Edward S. Bateman who was born 10 Feb. 1855 in "Caradock Co., Canada." That Edward Bateman was naturalized in Jackson County, Kansas in the early 1900s, and was believed to be the son of the Charles whose parents were Charles Bateman and Sarah Bateman who were married in Coshocton, Ohio. If so, we have no record of an Edward who could be a nephew of the Edward who was Elizabeth Haggertie's son, unless we have mixed up the two Charles Batemans who were born in 1811? However, I have good evidence that the Charles who married Sarah Sutton and who was the father of Edward S. was a brother of Mary Bateman. Mary and her husband John Bateman had her father, Swanton, living with them in Caradoc township until his death in 1868. Josephine Bradley submitted information on the family of Edward Bateman and Elizabeth Fee to the Ancestral File. Mrs. Bradley passed away September 1987, according to the on-line Social Security Death Index. Thus the connections among these Charles and Edwards is still somewhat ambiguous. The Edward who married Margaret Scott may or may not be the same Edward who married Elizabeth Fee Mills.
