John MEREDITH
M, #80, b. before 1550, d. 1596
Parents
Biography
John MEREDITH was born before 1550. He and
Thomasine LAMB were married. He died in 1596. He was buried on 26 December 1596 in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, Ireland.
1,2 His will was dated 24 Dec 1596. Probate was granted in 1603, the executors being John Meredith and Thomazin Meredith.
William Rice Meredith, who was a solicitor in Dublin in the mid-19th century, sent a sketch of a pedigree to the Ulster King of Arms purporting to show that his line descended from John Meredith. This was refuted in an entry in the Miscellaneous Search Notes of Genealogical Office Manuscript no. 815, which stated that:
“ . . . John Meredith brother of the Bishop was buried in St Patricks Cathedral 26 Dec 1596 as appears from his Funeral Entry where his Arms are recorded:- Gules on a Chevron between three Goats heads erased Or, as many trefoils of the last [?] – the same Arms as those recorded for the Bishop. From his will dated 24 Dec 1596 he appears to have had a wife named Tomasine, an only son John his executor and an only daughter Mary. Nothing further is known of these children.”
Analysis of the Y-DNA of descendants of Bishop Richard Meredith and William Rice Meredith shows that they are unrelated, and belong to different haplogroups.
