James Courthope PEACHE1

Biography
James Courthope the son of the Rev. Alfred Peache and Julia Augusta Cox. As chief engineer at Davey, Paxman & Co of Colchester, he oversaw the production of a high speed engine based on his own patented design (the ‘Peache Patent engine’). In 1904 he became Managing Director of Willans & Robinson, and subsequently its Chairman, until the firm became part of the English Electric Company in 1918. His father Alfred had inherited a considerable estate on the death of James’s grandfather, also called James Courthope Peache, who had been a wealthy timber merchant and barge builder/owner.
