Carmania from Queenstown on 31 Dec 1905, arriving in New York on the 8th Jan 1906. She sailed from New York to Liverpool on the S.S. Celtic arriving 13 Jun 1909, and returned to New York later that year on the S.S. Adriatic, arriving on 7 Oct 1909. The latter destination in New York was given as Mr G Dixon, a friend, of 312 West 99 St. She was living in Montreal at the time of her marriage in 1912.4,5,6

John Edward ‘Jack’ MODLER was born on 4 July 1919 in Rathkeale Registration DistrictG.2 He died on 10 September 1944, at age 25.1 He was buried in Brussels Town CemeteryG.1 John Edward Modler was a Lance Corporal in the 2nd Batallion, Irish Guards. He died from wounds received in action in WW2.
The photo of Jack Modler was contained in an album of a fellow guardsman, Arthur Tabs Mahoney, of No. 1 Squadron. Although it is annotated with “Killed in Action in August 1944”, the CWGC Roll of Honour records his death as occurring on 10th September 1944 and he is noted in the Official Army List published in The Times as having Died of Wounds. It is not known when he received these wounds but it is quite possible that it was in August. The stripe on his left lower sleeve denotes 2 years Good Conduct. L/Cpl John Edward Modler is listed pre-embarkation in the Troop Leader Lieutenant Isitt’s tank as Gunner/Mechanic. His fellow crewmen were Lance-Sergeant H. Raistrick, Guardsman W. Kingsley and Guardsman F. Roe.1,3,4
