Nicholas Stout

M, #18836, b. 14 February 1863

Parents

Biography

  • Birth: 14 February 1863; Coolbawn, Caheragh, Cork, Ireland
  • Christening: 22 February 1863; Caheragh Parish, Skibbereen
  • Note: Birth date: .
In 1929 Nicholas, 76 [this is an error--he would have been 66] and Robert, 55 sailed on the Letitia from Montreal to Glasgow, Scotland, arriving 11 October. They said they would be going to the Kensington Hotel, Great Victoria Street, Belfast (presumably on their way to County Cork). They returned to Canada, sailing from Cobh, Cork to Halifax on the Aurania, arriving 3 February 1930. This latter record indicates that Nicholas had previously been in Canada from June 1884 until October 1929. Their close relative in Ireland was their brother Henry of Coolbawn, County Cork (Caheragh parish, near Skibbereen). Their closest relative in Canada was their sister, Mrs. John Lambert of Canifton, Ontario. This would seem to confirm that neither of these brothers had married.
There were two other Nicholas Stouts of about the same age living in the USA:
The 1900 US census shows a Nicholas Stout age 40, born March 1860, immigrated 1900, living in Monroe county, NY, occupation "Boat Tender."
And in 1910 Nicholas Stout age 46, immigrated 1864, living in Boulder, Colorado with wife Josephine 37, born Iowa, married 19 years, 4 of 4 children living: John 17, George 13, Willie and Mary, both 11. Nicholas's occupation was engineer in a coal mine. In 1920 Nick 57 and Josephine 47 and daughter Mary 20 are in Boulder. Nick is said to be a farmer on his own farm.
