- Note: Records for this family were compiled by Bonnie Ostler: Thomas Smith was said to have emigrated from Northern Ireland to New Brunswick. However, there is a marriage record for a Thomas Smith of Lislee Parish (Courtmacsherry and adjacent area), County Cork and Elizabeth Bateman of Rathclaren Parish, which seems likely to be this couple. They moved from New Brunswick to the USA, probably Coshocton County, Ohio, in about 1837. Two or three years later they moved again to Pickering Twp. (just east of city of Toronto, along north shore of Lake Ontario), Ontario, where Thomas farmed.
- Note: Elizabeth Bateman; Thomas was a resident of the Parish of Lislee and Elizabeth of Rathclaren when they married (Rathclaren parish register). Unfortunately their parents were not named, and it is uncertain how they might be connected to other Smiths or Batemans who came to New Brunswick from Lislee and Rathclaren, County Cork.
