Bellingham Arthur SOMERVILLE was born on 17 November 1853.1 He and Margaret Hall CLINCH were married on 27 August 1879 in St Mary's, Witney, England.1 He died on 20 January 1916, at age 62, in Clermont, Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, Ireland.2
Bellingham Arthur Somerville enlisted aged 18 in the R.I.C. in 1872. He appeared on the census of 1891 at Church Green, Witney, England, described as Retired D. I. R. I. Constabulary aged 36, and enumerated with William Clinch (father-in-law aged 70, Banker & Brewer), Rachel H Clinch (mother-in-law aged 64), Margaret H. (wife aged 31), Cecelia (daughter aged 10), William A B (son aged 8), James A H B (son aged 7), Dorothy (daughter aged 2) and Vere F De M B (daughter aged 8 mths). He lived at Clermont, Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, Ireland; from at least 1895. Clermont House, Rathnew, was described in 2007 as: "Detached multiple-bay three-storey Palladian country house, built 1730 possibly to designs by Francis Bindon, with asymmetrical two and single-storey projecting side wings of the 1890s, now in use as a school with a large Neo-Georgian school and assembly hall / chapel extension of 1950 to the south. The original section of the building is three-storey and roughly square in plan. To north is the two-storey projecting wing of c.1890, whose west front consists of a canted bay, with similarly styled contemporary largely single-storey wing to south. .......... Whilst historically and socially this building is of considerable local importance, in architectural terms the original Palladian style house has been somewhat compromised by the later additions in the form of ill-conceived asymmetrical additions of the 1890s, and the imposing school extension of 1950."3,4,5,6 Bellingham Arthur SOMERVILLE was baptised on 16 June 1854 in Dublin, Ireland.1

The brewery of Clinch & Co of Witney was founded in 1841 by John William Clinch, the son of a banking family. It remained in business for over 120 years, at one time owning 71 pubs. The company was sold to Courage in 1961 who closed the brewery shortly afterwards.3
