     James WILKINSON was born circa 1856 in Queen’s County, Ireland.1 He married Sarah HASLAM on 21 August 1883 in Roscrea Methodist Church; the witnesses were George Wilkinson and Rebecca Haslam.2 He died on 20 October 1915.3
     
James Wilkinson was the son of James Wilkinson, a farmer. He was a shop assistant living in Roscrea at the time of his marriage in 1883. He was enumerated in the 1911 census as a Grocer living at Market Square, Abbelyleix, with wife Sara, daughters Annie, Lily, Bessie and Sadie, a niece Lily Wellwood (aged 7), and a domestic servant Mary Fiztpatrick. NOTE: there is no direct evidence to prove that he was the son of James Wilkinson and Anne Meredith, although it is consistent with the Irish naming convention if it applied to the children of James and Anne.1

     Sarah HASLAM was born circa 1857 in King’s Co., Ireland.2 She married James WILKINSON, son of James WILKINSON and Anne MEREDITH, on 21 August 1883 in Roscrea Methodist Church; the witnesses were George Wilkinson and Rebecca Haslam.3
     
Sarah Haslam was the daughter of Richard Haslam, a farmer, of Ballybeg, Ettagh, King’s County and Roscrea and his wife Lydia Jackson. Sarah had 6 children, and 5 were still living in 1911.1,4,3,2

James Wilkinson was enumerated in 1911 the household of Thomas Frederick Hayes, a Grocery Manager living in Main Street, Abbeyleix. James was described as an Apprentice Grocer. It is assumed that he is the son of James Wilkinson, Grocer in Market Square, and that he took over his father’s business; a James Wilkinson is listed in a 1931 Trades Directory for Abbeyleix as a Grocer, Wine & Spirit Merchant of Market Square.2 See below for source citation(s).1

Elizabeth Clarke was living at Emo and at Maryborough at the time of her marriages in 1832 and 1851 respectively. She was the daughter of George and Esther Clarke of Killimy, Coolbanagher.4
