“Frederick Stanley LeGear
J/28384, Flying Officer (Pilot) Legear, 263 Squadron RCAF was killed on air operations on September 10, 1944. He was 21 years of age.
Mrs. Robert LeGear, 79 Blake St., Barrie, whose four sons all served in the armed forces, received the following telegram on September 20, 1944:
“Regret to advise that your son, Flying Officer Frederick Stanley LeGear (J2834), is reported missing after air operations, date being obtained. Letter follows.”
LeGear was flying Typhoon aircraft No.JP 933 and failed to return from a shipping reconnaissance off the Beveland Islands, Holland. Stan LeGear was the youngest of four brothers. He joined the RCAF in August 1941. He trained at Belleville and Windsor, receiving his pilot’s wings at No. 14 SFS, Aylmer, in June 1942. Later, he was an instructor at Lethbridge, Alberta where he was commissioned a Pilot Officer. He served with an operational unit on the Pacific Coast before going overseas in December of 1943. He was promoted to Flying Officer in March 1944. His mother had received a letter from him on the same day that the telegraph arrived with the tragic news. His eldest brother, Trooper George LeGear, was wounded in Normandy while serving with the First Hussars tank regiment. LAC Sydney LeGear served in RCAF ground crew and Victor Legear served also served as an RCAF pilot overseas. As he has no known grave, Stanley LeGear is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, United Kingdom.

Frances Elizabeth Barrer was commonly known as Dottie (pronounced Doh-tee).
She was enumerated in the 1911 census as a Parlour Maid in the household of Mildred Carleton at Annamult, Ennisnag, Kilkenny, who was the widow of the Rev. William Carleton, Rector and Vicar of Callan and Canon of Ossory. The house had 16 rooms and 16 windows at the front, and was possibly Annamult House.2
