     Charles BARTMAN was born circa 1844. He married Jane BARRER, daughter of George BARRER and Eliza MEE, on 5 October 1869 in Kilflyn, Co. Limerick, Ireland; witnesses: George Alton and George Barrer. He died in 1913 in Queensland, Australia.¹

     John MODLER was born in May 1845 in Co. Limerick, Ireland.¹ He was christened on 3 May 1845 in Church of Ireland, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, Ireland.¹ He married Anne BARRER, daughter of George BARRER and Eliza MEE, on 18 January 1875 in Kilflyn, Co. Limerick, Ireland; witnesses: George Barrer and Francis Riggs. He died on 23 October 1924 in Courtmatrix, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, Ireland, at age 79.^2,3
     
John Modler was also known as John Modeller. He was a farmer. He was living in Courtmatrix, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, Ireland at the time of his marriage in 1875. He was recorded in the 1911 Ireland census at Courtmatrix, and described as John Modler, head of family, Church of Ireland, aged 67, a Farmer, born in Co. Limerick. He was enumerated with his wife Anne (aged 58), sons Edward (31), Frederick (21) and Albert (18), and his daughter Anna (aged 14).

     Albert Henry MODLER was born on 13 January 1893 in Courtmatrix, Co. Limerick, Ireland.^1,2 He was christened on 1 May 1893 in Church of Ireland, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, Ireland.¹ He married Jessie Bell MAITHER, daughter of Hiram A. MAITHER and Barbara FARQUHAR, on 17 September 1917 in 115 Delinelle St., Montreal; witnesses Fred Modler and Margaret J. Maither.^3,4 He died in Canada.
     
Albert Modler enlisted in the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1912. He subsequently emigrated to Canada. In 1917 he was a Millwright living at 804 Atwater Ave., Westmount, Quebec. He is believed to have served in the Toronto police force with Jack Barrer.

He was living at 65 Girouard Avenue, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada in 1930.^5,6,7

     Robert Clifford LEGEAR was born in May 1866 in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, Ireland.² He was christened on 27 May 1866 in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, Ireland.² He married Anna Mary MODLER, daughter of John MODLER and Anne BARRER, on 11 September 1916 in St. Simon Anglican Church, Montreal; wtinesses Albert H. Modler, Ella M. Brown and Frederick G. Modler.³ He died in 1923 in Canada.⁴

     Frederick Stanley LEGEAR was born circa 1922.¹ He died on 10 September 1944.¹
     
Frederick Stanley LeGear was known as Stan. His death is commemorated on Page 363 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance that records the names of members of the Canadian Forces and Canadian Merchant Navy killed on active service. It includes the following profile:
“Frederick Stanley LeGear
J/28384, Flying Officer (Pilot) Legear, 263 Squadron RCAF was killed on air operations on September 10, 1944. He was 21 years of age.
Mrs. Robert LeGear, 79 Blake St., Barrie, whose four sons all served in the armed forces, received the following telegram on September 20, 1944:
“Regret to advise that your son, Flying Officer Frederick Stanley LeGear (J2834), is reported missing after air operations, date being obtained. Letter follows.”
LeGear was flying Typhoon aircraft No.JP 933 and failed to return from a shipping reconnaissance off the Beveland Islands, Holland. Stan LeGear was the youngest of four brothers. He joined the RCAF in August 1941. He trained at Belleville and Windsor, receiving his pilot’s wings at No. 14 SFS, Aylmer, in June 1942. Later, he was an instructor at Lethbridge, Alberta where he was commissioned a Pilot Officer. He served with an operational unit on the Pacific Coast before going overseas in December of 1943. He was promoted to Flying Officer in March 1944. His mother had received a letter from him on the same day that the telegraph arrived with the tragic news. His eldest brother, Trooper George LeGear, was wounded in Normandy while serving with the First Hussars tank regiment. LAC Sydney LeGear served in RCAF ground crew and Victor Legear served also served as an RCAF pilot overseas. As he has no known grave, Stanley LeGear is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, United Kingdom.

     Victor Henry John LEGEAR was born on 3 September 1918 in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.¹ He died on 29 May 2003 in Chemainus, British Columbia, Canada, at age 84.¹

“LEGEAR Victor Henry John, in Chemainus, B.C. May 29, 2003. Born in Barrie, Ontario September 3, 1918, late resident of Cobble Hill, B.C. Predeceased by his daughter Lori in 1980. Survived by his loving wife Betty, daughter Susan Arnold, sons, Gary and Steven (Tineke) and 7 grandchildren. Victor served in the Second World War as a flight instructor at Camp Borden, and was stationed at Tofino, B.C. and with the 439 Typhoon Squadron overseas and was award the D.F.C. A special thanks to all the staff of the Chemainus Health Care Centre for all their care and kindness. No service by request.      Frances Elizabeth BARRER was born on 5 March 1887 in Sunny Bank Cottage, Clifden, Co. Galway, Ireland. She was christened on 1 May 1887 in Omey Parish Church, Clifden, Co. Galway, Ireland.¹ She died on 21 April 1960 in England at age 73. She was buried in All Saints Churchyard, Compton Greenfield, Gloucestershire, England.
     
Frances Elizabeth Barrer was commonly known as Dottie (pronounced Doh-tee).

She was enumerated in the 1911 census as a Parlour Maid in the household of Mildred Carleton at Annamult, Ennisnag, Kilkenny, who was the widow of the Rev. William Carleton, Rector and Vicar of Callan and Canon of Ossory. The house had 16 rooms and 16 windows at the front, and was possibly Annamult House.²

     John James BARRER was born on 4 March 1892 in Gort, Co. Galway, Ireland. He married Kathleen ARMSTRONG, daughter of William ARMSTRONG and Frances BRETT, on 14 October 1915 in Toronto, York County, Canada. He married Elsie Mary GLASSOR in 1922 in Canada. He died on 16 May 1969 in St Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Canada, at age 77.¹

He emigrated from Ireland to Canada and served in the Toronto Police Force.²

     Kathleen ARMSTRONG was born in 1889. She married John James BARRER, son of Thomas BARRER and Margaret FRENCH, on 14 October 1915 in Toronto, York County, Canada. She died on 20 November 1917 in Toronto, Canada.¹ She was buried in November 1917 in Prospect Cemetery, Toronto, Canada.²

     Elsie Mary GLASSOR was born in 1901.¹ She married John James BARRER, son of Thomas BARRER and Margaret FRENCH, in 1922 in Canada. She died on 9 February 1998 in Toronto, Canada.¹

     John James BARRER was born in 1927. He married Jean AMMAN after 1955.¹ He died on 5 May 2007.²

     Margaret Julia BARRER was born on 12 August 1923 in Toronto, Canada.¹ She died on 14 December 1974 at age 51.¹

She died on 5 September 1993 in Aabletone Nursing Home, Stoke Bishop, Bristol, England, at age 88; Parkinsons Disease, Dementia.¹ She was buried in All Saints Churchyard, Compton Greenfield, Gloucestershire, England.

     Emily BARRER was born on 25 June 1903 in Kilgarriff, Co. Limerick, Ireland. She married Geoffrey Thomas FORD on 28 October 1941 in Compton Greenfield Church, nr. Bristol, England. She died on 2 April 1966 in England at age 62. She was buried in St Peter's Churchyard and Cemetery, Pilning, Gloucestershire, England.
