The Hereford Times of 7 May 1836 announced the death of Joseph Meredith on 2 May in his 72nd year. The burial record described him as a Yeoman, formerly a Malster, of Broad Street, Knighton, aged 72.
An inscription on a table tomb in Knighton churchyard reads::
Sacred memory of / Joseph Meredith of this town / who died 2nd May 1836 Age 72 / Take ye heed watch and pray / for ye know not when the time is / also Elizabeth second wife of / Joseph Meredith who departed 22nd February 1866 / Age 85 / also sacred memory of Susanna / wife of Joseph died 23rd September 1812 Aged 66.
